“Under the Dome” alum Aisha Hinds will play Emmett’s (Richmond) young, single mother, Jada. Another “Empire” alum Olivia Dawson will play the mother of two yet-to-be-cast main characters Brandon and Coogie.

Alex Henderson (“Empire,” “Sense8”) will play Kevin, a 12-year-old boy who has seen more in his young life than more people see in their entire lives. Described as a hard-drinker, Dawson’s character is a woman who never received a lot of love from her parents so she has very little to give to her own children.

Jason Weaver (“Drumline”) will play Ronnie, a street corner philosopher and a fixture in the neighborhood who must go to extraordinary lengths to try and win back the love of his life.

Reid will serve as an exec producer alongside Waithe and Common, who are both originally from Chicago’s south side, plus Aaron Kaplan (“Secrets and Lies,” “The Mysteries of Laura”) and Clark Johnson (“Homeland,” “The Wire”) who will also direct the pilot. The pilot begins shooting in Chicago later this year.
